Asheville Citizen Times: Six Candidates Advance in Asheville City Council Primary

The Asheville Citizen Times reported that six candidates advanced from Asheville’s nonpartisan City Council primary election after a competitive race that included 20 candidates.

According to unofficial results from the North Carolina State Board of Elections, Buncombe County Commissioner Drew Ball and incumbent Maggie Ullman Berthiaume led the primary field with 16.5% and 16.2% of the vote respectively.

River Arts District small business owner Jeffrey Burroughs finished among the top vote-getters with approximately 7% of the vote, securing a place in the November general election.

Former City Council member Keith Young also advanced with 6.5%, alongside incumbents Vice Mayor Antanette Mosley and Sheneika Smith.

The six candidates advancing to the general election are:

  • Drew Ball

  • Maggie Ullman Berthiaume

  • Jeffrey Burroughs

  • Keith Young

  • Antanette Mosley

  • Sheneika Smith

The November general election will determine which three candidates will ultimately serve on Asheville City Council.
