Asheville Citizen Times: City Appoints Jeffrey Burroughs to Helene Economy Recovery Board

As Asheville continues rebuilding following the devastation of Tropical Storm Helene, Asheville City Council has appointed members to four new recovery advisory boards that will help guide the city’s long-term recovery.

According to the Asheville Citizen Times, the boards were created to support the city’s recovery strategy by providing policy recommendations and community input across four key areas: housing, infrastructure, economy, and people and environment.

Jeffrey Burroughs was appointed to the Economy Recovery Board, which will help advise the city on economic rebuilding and long-term resilience.

The board brings together community leaders and representatives from several of Asheville’s advisory commissions, including the Public Art & Culture Commission, the Asheville Downtown Commission, and the A-B Riverfront Commission.

City leaders say the goal of the recovery boards is to ensure that community voices help guide Asheville’s rebuilding efforts.

Assistant City Manager Ben Woody said in a city statement:

“Recovery is a shared effort, and these boards ensure that community voices are at the center of our decisions. We’re grateful to these members for stepping forward to help guide Asheville’s path toward a stronger, more resilient future.”

The boards will begin meeting with a joint orientation and will continue working through June 2027 as Asheville navigates the long-term impacts of the storm.

Tropical Storm Helene caused catastrophic flooding across Western North Carolina in September 2024, damaging infrastructure, businesses, and cultural districts across the region.
