A Creative Renaissance: Recovery in Asheville’s River Arts District
After Hurricane Helene devastated the River Arts District, impacting hundreds of artists and studios, community leaders began organizing recovery efforts almost immediately.
Jeffrey Burroughs, a fine jeweler and president of the River Arts District Artists, helped coordinate cleanup efforts, temporary studio space, fundraising initiatives, and partnerships to support artists displaced by the storm.
Burroughs emphasized that the district is more than a collection of studios. “It’s a living, breathing creative community,” they said. The rebuilding effort has focused not just on restoration, but on reimagining a stronger and more resilient future for the district.
